to know beauty,
we must be able to see it
to know beauty,
we must be able to see it
Art is first and foremost about seeing. We cannot record what we do not see, either with our eyes, or our imagination. The more clearly and deeply we see, the more able we are to record our visions for others to share.
My journey is about seeing. And, to truly see, we cannot simply observe the subject, but must see every nuance of radiant light, color and atmosphere that stands between us and our subject.
Claude Monet said, “I am pursuing the impossible. Other painters paint a bridge, a house, a boat... I want to paint the air in which the bridge, the house, and the boat are to be found -- the beauty of the air around them, and that is nothing less than the impossible.”
To see. To really see.
